KOMM NACH BERLIN/ ERFOLGREICH ANGEKOMMEN / ÖZGE TOR

Özge Tor (35 Years Old)

Where do you work?

I am the managing director of Medical Fly GmbH – a company that offers medical treatments abroad in connection with tourism. We organize medical trips to Turkey, but also from abroad to Germany, for example, from the Arab countries.

Tell us about it!

My goal was to unite my two home countries, Germany and Turkey, in my job. This has been my wish since I was a child. Since I enjoy organizing, communicating, traveling, and have always wanted to be independent, I participated in the Business Plan Competition Berlin-Brandenburg for entrepreneurs in 2012 and founded my company. Today, three years later, I have gained great recognition in the industry and have become a specialist in the field. I love my job.

Why Berlin?

I’m originally from Bremen, but after my third semester of studies, I realized that I wanted to broaden my horizons. That’s why I came to Berlin. I wanted to meet new people, find new friendships, and live in a big metropolis. I wanted to be where the action is. That’s why I didn’t lose my connection to Bremen; my oldest friends still live there. But Berlin is just exciting.

Who or what made your early days in Berlin easier?

Definitely my husband. It was a crazy story. I met him on the first day, in the first minute, right when I got off the train at the station. It was destiny. I’ve been living in Berlin for eleven years now, and I’ve been with my husband for eleven years. We’ve even been married since 2014. I’m very happy here.

What do you love about Berlin?

In Berlin, there are so many things that I missed in Bremen. Here, you can buy groceries around the clock, go to restaurants, or have a coffee. And very important for me as a German citizen with deep Turkish roots: the Turkish language is everywhere. It’s just a great feeling to live here. Oh, and one more thing… it doesn’t rain as much in Berlin as it does in the north. Initially, I was always surprised that people would take shelter somewhere when it rained and wait for it to stop. But here, you just know that the rain quickly passes.

If you could give a piece of advice to a newcomer in Berlin, what would it be?

Enjoy the diversity of this city! Make use of all the cultural offerings and, above all, the many opportunities for education and further education!
