Ladies exclusive: How do I prepare my body for summer?

Every summer, the battle and stress begin anew for many who haven’t achieved all the goals they set over the long winter. Only when the days become longer and warmer, the annual rush to find a quick solution to achieving the dream body intensifies.

If this summer is meant to make the dream body a reality, it’s advisable to start doing something about it now.

If the scale shows a bit too much weight overall, a long-term solution can be found through dietary changes and exercise. However, not all problem areas can be addressed solely with exercise and a healthy diet. For instance, in the case of feeling the need for a larger breast, only a breast augmentation can provide a solution.

But what procedures are available, and what can be achieved with them? When it comes to breast procedures, we typically distinguish between breast augmentation, breast lift, and breast reduction. While the difference between breast augmentation and breast reduction is relatively clear, the lines blur when there is also sagging tissue.

If there’s very little tissue with moderate sagging, a breast augmentation with implants might be sufficient to achieve the desired tightening effect. This is often advisable for young women who still plan to have children as it initially avoids the larger scars of a breast lift.

However, if there’s a significant amount of sagging tissue, a breast lift may be performed. In this case, the goal is always to preserve as much breast tissue as possible. However, with the removal of tissue, there may be a postoperative impression of a slightly smaller breast. If this is undesirable, or if a larger breast volume in addition to tightening is explicitly desired, a breast lift can be combined with a breast augmentation using implants. This not only adds more volume to the breast but also provides overall firmness as the existing skin is filled with the implant.

Unfortunately, sagging skin can’t be significantly altered by exercise and a healthy diet. Therefore, after significant weight loss or pregnancies, the only long-term solutions for correction are surgical procedures in the form of tightening operations.

In addition to breast lift, there are also body tightening operations such as the tummy tuck, 360-degree body lift, as well as arm or thigh lifts. The tummy tuck is a procedure primarily done by women after pregnancies. With a longitudinal incision at the lower hip, the abdominal wall can be tightened, and if there’s rectus diastasis, the inner muscles can be brought together. The so-called “Mommy Makeover” combines various procedures on the breasts and abdomen to help mothers regain their former selves after pregnancies.

Whether it’s breast augmentation, breast lift, breast reduction, or tummy tuck, all procedures promise to address specific problem areas and help one feel comfortable in their body again. But when should one plan these procedures to fly off to a summer vacation unhindered and present the regained confidence on the beach or by the pool?

Before addressing this question in our next post, one thing must be clarified: Cosmetic surgery is not a quick fix to shed unwanted pounds just before a vacation or quickly shape the breasts. An operation should always be well-considered, and the decision for or against it should involve a balance between the desire to finally (re)feel comfortable and the risks and side effects that come with any surgery.
